Design Engineer – Junior Company Overview

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your engineering skills within a collaborative environment focused on civil and structural design. As an integral part of our engineering department, you will support project development from conception through construction, gaining hands-on experience in system design, drafting, and project management.

Duties

  • Assist senior engineers in preparing structural calculations and
  • Support the creation of detailed drawings and models utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D to ensure precise project
  • Contribute to project scheduling and coordination efforts to meet deadlines and optimize
  • Participate in site visits to observe construction progress as
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to review plans, specifications, and technical documents for accuracy and
  • Utilize Bluebeam for markup review and document management throughout various project
  • Assist in preparing technical writing, drafting reports, and compiling project documentation to support engineering


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited
  • I.T. designation preferred (or ability to obtain).
  • Familiarity with civil engineering principles,
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar
  • Knowledge of project scheduling tools and project management

WELDERS (Full-time)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
WELDERS

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Full-Time, 1st Shift, Monday-Friday-7:00am-3:30pm
  • Set up and operate welding and cutting equipment to perform welding.
  • Operate oxyacetylene torch to cut materials as required.
  • Set up and operate band saw, punch press, and shear to fabricate columns and plates to specified dimensions.
  • Inspect finished columns for adherence to specifications and workmanship.
  • Report defects to Lad Man. Operate overhead electric hoist, electric forklift, material mover, or other items to handle heavy materials.
  • Maintain required production records to enable accurate and timely completion of daily schedule.
  • Observe and obey all safety rules, practices, and regulations.
  • Detect and report defective and unsafe equipment and materials as well as unusual situations to Lead Man.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.


Knowledge and Skills Required For Essential Job Functions

  • High School diploma or Vocational school education
  • Fluent in the English language.
  • Interpret schedule data and shop drawings.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to become AWS D-1.1 certified.
  • Ability to work from prints, specifications, written or verbal orders, and instructions.
  • Ability to use rules, tape, combination square, and other hand tools necessary for layout work as well as using tools and fixtures correctly to check parts to product specification.
  • Knowledgeable with IAS 472 Table 10.1 and 10.2 as it applies to the Beam Line.
  • To be trained in our Forklift certification.

Ability to communicate verbally. Eyesight, hearing, and physical coordination/strength sufficient to operate welding and material handling equipment safely. Twisting, bending, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds.

Must pass an eye examination with or without corrective lenses to prove vision acuity of Jaeger J-2 at a distance of 12 – 17 inches at the commencement of the job and thereafter annually.

JOB DESCRIPTION: WAREHOUSE/YARDMAN

SUTTON, MA

General Summary

This position reports to the Material Handling Lead.

Insure implementation of scheduled operation of material movement through receiving, storage, loading and shipping as directed by Material Handling Lead.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Insure that loading, receiving (materials, supplies, and returned goods), and incoming inspections are conducted promptly and completely. Verify that material is properly labeled and placed in assigned locations, properly blocked and stacked.
Forward all production and equipment reports as required by established procedures. Verify the accuracy of quantities recorded, and that all parts meet PII quality standards. Contact Material Handling Lead immediately when parts required for shipment are discrepant, damaged, or missing

Responsible to make sure that the gates are locked and all lights have been turned off and that doors are secure at the end of each day. Insure that all fork trucks are in the Truck Garage at the end of each day.
Maintain work areas in a neat and orderly manner and observe and obey all safety rules. Detect and report defective and unsafe equipment and materials, as well as unusual situations to Material Handling Lead.

Knowledge and Skills Required For Essential Job Functions

• High School diploma.
• Effective communication skills.
• Two years experience as Yard/Warehouse person.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Knowledge of Warehouse I scales for coils and put-ups.
• Knowledge of safe operator practices for forklifts and tractors.
• Ability to recognize damaged or improperly fabricated parts.
• Thorough knowledge of the Quality System Incoming Acceptance criteria.
• Fluent in the English language.
• Forklift certification.

Do you intend to have a full foundation for your building?

All Package Steel buildings require a full and properly designed foundation including flooring, piers, and perimeter frost walls. This work should be completed prior to the arrival of the building on-site. Every foundation is site-specific and should be designed by a local engineer who will consider soil conditions, frost depths and any local regulations which may affect it.

If you do not already have an engineer to design the foundation, Package Steel can provide assistance with locating an independent licensed engineer who can help you through this portion of the project.

Do you have a building permit from your local city/town?

Before any construction can begin, you must secure the required building permits from the city or town in which your site is located. This allows the local government to ensure your project and the resulting structure will be safe and meet all zoning, size and other requirements. The process involves submitting an extensive application along with a certified site plan, property deed and scheduling of all necessary inspections. Specific requirements vary among municipalities, as does the time it takes to get your building permits. An experienced builder can help you meet all these regulations and secure approval.

Are you okay with a 6 month lead time?

Metal buildings generally take less time to construct than wood or concrete buildings, but the exact timeline varies widely. We recommend allowing at least 6 months for the process, which includes matching you with a local builder, developing a scope of work and design proposal, fabricating the building components and delivering your structure to the site. The actual time from start to finish is determined by a variety of factors, including the size of the building, the complexity of the design, availability of materials and uncontrollable variables such as the weather.

Have you contracted a builder?

Some business owners with construction experience choose to build or to coordinate the building of their own structures independently, often with prefabricated metal building kits. This do-it-yourself approach can work for smaller structures, but for medium- to large-sized buildings, it’s best to enlist the services of a high-quality builder. An experienced builder, paired with the right metal building manufacturer, can help guide you through the entire process, from ensuring that your site and structure conform to all local building codes to construction to final approval for occupancy.
